Boneyard Bay
White IPA - 6.5%
White IPA is one of the original styles that got our Brewmaster Matt into homebrewing. This beer is a hybrid of 2 styles using pilsner and flaked wheat as the malt base, and a traditional fruity wit yeast strain from Escarpment Labs to provide the subtle baking spice and orchard fruit aromas. We then amped up the alcohol to fit into IPA range, and hopped it aggressively with Amarillo, Denali, and German Hallertau Blanc hops. This provides a noticeable bitterness with loads of peach, citrus, and subtle white wine flavours.
The story of Bone Yard Bay (BYB) is not an unfamiliar one told of our past.
BYB is opposite the main harbour and the historic industrial area on the Parry Sound waterfront. During the railroad and logging boom days, captains of industry would "dispose" of ships that were no longer valued. The ships would be launched, sometimes ablaze, and pushed off from the Town dock towards BYB. Skeletal rib-like remains of once mighty vessels can still be seen below the surface of the clear blue waters. These memeto mori should serve as reminders of the care with which we must treat our natural environment and that Georgian Bay is not a dumping ground.
