INTERNSHIP (1 YEAR CONTRACT)

JOB DESCRIPTION – QC Brewer

Trestle Brewing Company is a small craft brewery located on the waterfront in beautiful Parry Sound. Opened in Spring 2018 with a 20 HL brewhouse, 40 HL cellar tanks and a semi-automatic canning line. The QC Brewer will work with the Head Brewer and Assistant Brewer on Quality Control, brewing operations, be a key part of the development, and share in the success of the project while becoming part of our team and community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
⦁ Your day to day responsibilities will include:
⦁ Operate brewing equipment efficiently, accurately, and safely to produce quality beer according to recipe and SOPs.

⦁ Cellar management, yeast management and re-pitching goals
⦁ Quality control and routine sensory analysis
⦁ Packaging including kegging and canning
⦁ Equipment maintenance and repairs
⦁ Inventory management through the use of EKOS (ICT – Brewery Management Software)
⦁ Recipe development and refinement
⦁ Assist in the creation of standard operating procedures
⦁ Ability to work flexible shifts
⦁ Work towards lowering wastewater-to-beer ratio by continually implementing best practices
⦁ Organize and maintain a clean and efficient workspace
⦁ Maintain malt, hop, and yeast ingredients in best conditions
⦁ Represent the brand and brewing team at taproom and outside events occasionally
⦁ Deliveries to licensees
⦁ Other tasks as required as a team member of a small and very busy brewery

SKILLS/ QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates possess the following skills:
⦁ Previous brewing experience and/or a formal brewing education an asset
⦁ Other post-secondary education is an asset
⦁ SmartServe Certification
⦁ Other post-secondary education is an asset
⦁ Valid driver's license required with clean driving record
⦁ Strong time self-management and prioritization skills
⦁ Strong sense of professionalism, diplomacy and fairness
⦁ Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
⦁ Ability to routinely lift and carry heavy objects
⦁ Overtime as required

INTERNSHIP ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA – Successful candidates must:

  • Be unemployed or underemployed youth (persons aged 30 and under)
  • Have graduated within the last three years with a degree, diploma or certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Have not previously participated in a youth internship with FedNor’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) or in any other federal or provincial internship program with pay for a period of six months or more;

SALARY: This full-time position is partially funded by FedNor’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI).

During the COVID-19 pandemic, currently only our retail store is open Monday-Saturday from 10am-5pm.
