Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines

Flight testing of the Orenda Iroquois engine was primarily conducted by veteran test pilot Mike Cooper-Slipper, who served as the Chief Test Pilot for Orenda Engines.

When we opened the brewery, legend was that during the testing of the Iroquois engines that were to power the Avro Arrow, a test pilot in a CF-103 Sabrejet flew from Malton to Parry Sound for an UNDERPASS of the CPR Trestle. We have now confirmed this story with family who have visited the brewery. This story inspired local artist Don Corbett's depiction of the risky manoeuvre.

Test Pilots often flew to the Parry Sound area so that the workers assembling the engines could witness the power resulting from their labour.

Which approach would have made the most sense? Heading up stream or down river towards Georgian Bay?
